Moors run in memory of Clevedon man's brother
A Clevedon man is organising a half-marathon for the third year running in memory of his brother.
Damien Feely, who was well known and popular in the town, died in 2007 aged just 32 following a short battle with cancer.
Since then his brother Barney, now 32, has organised a half-marathon every year to raise money for local charities and he is hoping this year's will be the most successful yet. All the proceeds raised will go to St Peter's Hospice, the only adult hospice in the Bristol area caring for people with incurable illnesses.
The 13-mile run begins at the Crab Apple pub in Millcross, where Damien was a regular, on Sunday, December 13, and continues across the moors through Kingston Seymour and back to Clevedon. Barney, of Elgar Close, said: "I've got people running and riding the course and it's open to anyone.
"We are 'one-race-a-year' runners so nobody will feel out of place, it could be an opportunity for someone to try a half-marathon as a personal challenge."
Anyone interested in taking part can call Barney Feely on 07816 681022 or email barneyfeely@yahoo.co.uk, where they can get sponsorship forms and find out about getting a St Peter's Hospice T-shirt. The race starts at 9.30am but Barney is asking people to arrive at 9am to collect their T-shirts and join in a warm-up.
