Grand Appeal's Lauren Vincent unwraps a small Gromit sculpture
But children will be able to get in on the act by decorating statues that are half the size at their schools and community groups.
Nearly 50 schools have already signed up to be part of Gromit Unleashed, which will mean they can get involved in the project, which will benefit Bristol Children’s Hospital charity the Grand Appeal.

The charity’s fundraising manager helped unwrap some of the new Gromit’s today, which were lined up alongside the 5ft sculptures.
“The small Gromits are so lovely, they are very endearing and very huggable,” she said.
“I think it’s hugely important that the schools and community groups get involved. This is their art trail and it means a lot to us that get on board and get involved.”
The schools packs include information about animation and drawing as well as cross-curricular projects. Schools are also being encouraged to get involved in fundraising for the hospital as part of the project.

“They're not miniature. They're at least average dog size, if not actually a bit larger.”
