Bristol & West AC's Tom Merson, who won the Devon 10,000m track title on Wednesday night in a personal best time of 30mins 41.3secs, is running the Experian Robin Hood half- marathon on Sunday.

Merson, who is representing his native Devon in the inter-counties event, finished 18th in the Bristol half last weekend and is hoping to attack his personal best time of 68mins 44secs.

North Somerset AC's young sprinter Sophie Thomas, who broke 14 seconds for 100m for the first time with 13.97secs at the Yate Sprints and Hurdles Festival last Sunday, is among the entries for the Last Chance Saloon meeting at Braunton on Sunday.

The organisers have now made a U-turn and decided to take entries on the day.

For the full programme see the club website at www.northdevonac.co.uk.

Bristol & West AC international Kate Goodhead will leave it to the last minute before deciding whether to run the Woodchester Park eight-mile multi-terrain race on Sunday.

Goodhead bruised her hip while finishing 11th at the World Mountain Running Championships, in Italy, last weekend but is keen to have a run before tackling the Commonwealth Games Championships in the Lake District the following week.

Entries will be taken on the day and for further details see the race website at www.stroudac.co.uk.

Bitton Road Runners will be out in force at the Chippenham half-marathon on Sunday and for further details see the race website at www.chippenhamhalf- marathon.co.uk.

Entries will be taken on the day for the first Somerset Levels & Moors Marathon tomorrow (9.30am).

The single lap course, comprising 20 miles of multi- terrain and 6.2 miles on the road, has been organised by Somerset club Langport Runners with the start and finish at Bowdens Crest Caravan Park, Langport.

"This has never been done in the south west before, so it is going to be an historic event," said club spokesman Ken May.

"It is a mainly flat course, but does have a couple of challenging hills at 19.1 miles with quite a steep one very near the finish."

Thirty-seven runners have already registered and for further information contact Pete or Sue Jones on 01458 251486.

The winner of the Easy Runner athlete of the month for August will be revealed in tomorrow's Post.
