THOMAS the Tank Engine will be visiting Avon Valley Railway on May 9 and 10.

For the weekend, Thomas will be giving families rides along the whole line, while many of his friends such as the Troublesome Trucks, Bulgy and the Fat Controller will also be there.

To add to the party atmosphere, there will entertainment in the shape of Punch and Judy, magic shows, an inflatable slide, face painting, a miniature steam railway, fairground rides and more.

The station buffet will be providing refreshments and the shop will be stocked with a wide variety of Thomas merchandise.

"It probably goes without saying that these visits are very popular," added David Cole, from the railway. "A Day Out With Thomas is always a day out to remember as the children get to see a full-sized steam engine and ride behind their hero."

All seats are reserved and can be booked by calling at the station, by telephoning 0117 932 5538, or online at the AVR website www.avonvalleyrailway.org

In advance, children under 3 years old pay £3.50, those aged 3 to 16 pay £9.50 and adults £12. Tickets bought on the day are more expensive.

Trains will operate between 10.30am and 4.45pm each day. Visitors arriving by car are asked to park at the Brislington Park and Ride facility on the A4.

A free connecting service to Bitton station will be provided.

There will be no parking at Bitton Station.
