Mayor candidate Geoff Gollop is 'in favour of controlled expansion' of Bristol Airport
IN our story about a debate involving four of the contenders for Bristol's mayor in yesterday's Post we stated that Conservative candidate Geoff Gollop was against the expansion of Bristol airport.
Mr Gollop has contacted us to say that rather than speaking against the airport's expansion he spoke in support of it "as long as it is controlled, is sustainable and is done in an environmentally-friendly way".

He said: "The problem with the airport is that people arrive and then can't easily get to where they want to be. Poor transport links are not a reason to oppose expansion, they are simply a challenge and, if elected as mayor, I will need to tackle it.
"The emphasis at the airport needs to be business and places we do business with. It is business that is going to bring the jobs we need in the city.

"Bristol's profile nationally and internationally is something that we need to work on and the airport has to have links with areas and countries that we do trade with as a city."
We are happy to print this clarification and apologise to Mr Gollop.
