Former Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard looks set to join Cardiff City
CARDIFF City are poised to sign former Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard from West Ham United for a fee understood to be close to £2.5 million.
If the 25-year-old can agree personal terms with Cardiff, the deal should be concluded before the transfer window shuts today.

Maynard, pictured, joined the Hammers for about £1.6m from Bristol City in January 2012, but his first-team chances have been limited.
The Crewe product would be Cardiff's tenth summer signing after Brighton wing Craig Noone joined yesterday.

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has already signed Craig Bellamy, Tommy Smith, Heidar Helguson, Matthew Connolly, Joe Lewis, Jordan Mutch, Kim Bo-Kyung and Etien Velikonja this summer.
Maynard started his career as a trainee at Crewe Alexandra, scoring 32 goals in 59 league appearances, before joining Bristol City in a £2.25m deal in July 2008.
The striker was equally prolific during his time at Ashton Gate, hitting 45 goals from the 124 league games, but the Robins were forced to sell Maynard before his contract ran down.
He scored in West Ham's 2-0 League Cup win over former club Crewe on Tuesday night, making his first appearance of the season.

“So all that Nicky Maynard has done is to swap one Championship club for another.
Except of course that his agent has made a bit of money in the process,(so did Nicky, but I bet his agent got the thick end).
I wonder why professional footballers are reputed to be thick. Perhaps Nicky could enlighten us!”

“@i8
When the match was abandoned last week, did it bring back any memories of your child hood (the indicators are, it will be a recent memory)?
In regards to NM, probably a baaaaaad decision. He's moving into journey man territory now - brought in to do a job and off loaded as quick as possible. Obviously his agent is walking round with a big smile on his face... kerching.”

“It would be nice if the writer could tell us what the sell on clause to City is and then add in Hendersons.
Happy Days considering we made a monze of the initial non transfer to Leicester!!”

“I reckon Maynard will be laughing his Studs off - he went for the money + 2 signing on fees + didn't ask to leave WH so more £'s there.
So, he'll be playing in an easier league after becoming absolutely loaded within a short period and Cardiff will doubt be paying him mega-bucks guaranteed for several years - can't see him giving a damn about playing prem football!
Hopefully we have a sell-on clause?”

“Now this article really does make my day, after treating city like **** and forcing a move to follow your "premiership dream" look where its got you...way down the pecking order at west ham...no premiership games or goals and to top it off your now getting pied off out on loan back to a championship team that got mopped up by city last week, chin up lad...#karma!”

“If Maynard went to Leicester at the start of last season they might of went up as they only finished 9 points from play offs & he might of got reg football in the Prem . I know Cardiff been in the play off's last few seasons but will be surprised to see them up there at the end of this season, looking at mid table finish at most . hope your son picks up on the welsh accent
"Shut that door open" alright bra!”
