MAURICE MALPAS has urged Swindon Town supporters to turn out in force tomorrow to offer the departing Christian Roberts a proper send-off.

The Welshman called time on his career earlier this week after losing a battle to overcome a long-term knee injury.

Crowd favourite Roberts will be paraded on the County Ground pitch before the clash with Millwall to bid farewell to the supporters after spending four years at the club following a switch from local rivals Bristol City.

Malpas said: "We all feel for Robbo because unexpected retirement is a difficult thing to deal with it.

"It is sad to see a young man of 28 retire and I am sure it will make some other players realise how lucky they are.

"It only takes one bad tackle or one bad turn to end it all and we all feel for him at the moment.

"It was exciting to coach Robbo at times but also a bit frustrating. On his day he was a handful and absolutely unplayable at times.

"I saw bits and pieces in training and what I will remember is the night he ran riot at Luton in one of my first games in charge.

"I think the fans liked him because he was a bit of a showman. We hope everyone turns up on Sunday to give him a decent send-off.

"It is then down to Robbo to get on with his life and if the club can help him in any way we will do that."

Once Roberts has completed his lap of honour, Town will get down to the serious business of trying to erase the bad memories of horror shows against Leeds United and Colchester by regaining the winning thread on home turf.

Malpas admitted to being 'devastated' by the nature of their home defeat against ten-man Leeds United a fortnight ago and was also less than enthralled about the way his troops contrived to lose against Colchester in their previous County Ground encounter.

The manager admits his side 'owe the fans one' and is hoping for a error-free performance after individual mistakes have proved costly in the last two games on their own patch.

Malpas said: "The last two results at home have been poor and parts of the performances have been unacceptable.

"We have been giving goals away through our own mistakes and we now have a chance to make up for those bad days by picking up three points.

"We got a good reaction from the players when we drew at Stockport last week and I was satisfied.

"If we can put on a bit of a show Sunday it will give everyone connected to the club peace of mind and send the fans home happy."

Millwall, however, have enjoyed an early-season revival under new manager Kenny Jackett following two campaigns battling at the wrong end of the table.

The former Swansea boss has watched his side win four of their last five games and has this week made two astute signings after offering short-term deals to Plymouth striker Jermaine Easter and ex-Watfrod frontman Gifton Noel-Williams.

"Millwall have brought decent players in but we have to concentrate on what we do," said Malpas.

"We can't worry about this player or that because we can only control what our own players do.

"They are on a good run and confidence is high but I have told our players that we have to concentrate on posing them problems rather than having to suffer from ones of our own making."

Striker Barry Corr will miss out after picking up a thigh strain earlier this week and is expected to return to training on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Peter Brezovan will return to the squad after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury and a bout of illness. Jamie Vincent will be unavailable for six weeks after undergoing minor knee surgery last week.
