CLEVEDON'S faint play-off hopes were all but extinguished as Matt Liddiard gave bottom side Bishop's Cleeve victory in Division One South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League.

The visitors made a good start to the game, but had goalkeeper Lee Matthews sent off for handling outside the penalty area and conceded the only goal four minutes after half-time.

Dave Stone just failed to connect with a first-minute Rory Prendergast cross, while Lloyd Mills fired straight at the goalkeeper.

However, the game changed when Matthews raced from his penalty area only to handle the ball and be dismissed.

Prendergast took over in goal, but he was beaten four minutes into the second period when Liddiard met a cross from player-boss Alex Sykes to head into the corner of the net.

The nervous hosts were unable to add a second goal, though, Joe Parker coming closest when he struck the post from an angle in stoppage-time.
