Matthew Bates signs on with Bristol City until end of season
Bristol City have completed the signing of Matthew Bates on a short-term contract until the end of the season.
The former Middlesbrough defender, who has been out of contract since mid-January, will go straight into the squad for Saturday's crunch npower Championship showdown against Barnsley at Ashton Gate.
Initially brought to the club by former manager Derek McInnes, Bates made eight appearances for the Robins between November and January.
Short of central defensive cover, new head coach Sean O'Driscoll offered the 25-year-old ex-England youth international a deal after running the rule over him at the club's Failand training ground in recent weeks.

“just showing the genius of the ''football adviser'' and those in charge of 'football matters' at a board level
it smacks of expediency and certainly not based on sound 'footballing reasons'”
