Matt's a winner at Beaconsfield Farm
KEYNSHAM'S Matt Ridgeway finished seven marks up on Tom Smith in the British Sporting Sidecar Association's timed and observation trial at Beaconsfield Farm, West Harptree.
Driving rain led to a smaller-than-usual field of 47 and, with hill marshalls also having to brave the winter-like conditions, the event was stopped short of the proposed two hours. Even so, most of the award winners completed 15 laps on a challenging circuit, on one of the highest points of the Mendip Hills.
Ridgeway's only loss of marks on observation came in the fourth section, on a complicated climb between trees.
Smith incurred a penalty in the same section and in the first on a cambered climb, which also claimed marks from Andy Frost, Paul Manning and trials class winner Simon Prideaux.
