Massive goods haul in Avonmouth burglary
ABOUT £500,000 of cigarettes, jewellery, alcohol and perfume was stolen during a sophisticated burglary in Avonmouth.
The raid on the Harding Brothers Shipping Ltd warehouse in Avonmouth Way, details of which were revealed for the first time yesterday, is believed to have taken place last Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Police told the Evening Post the burglars disabled the alarm systems and used an axle grinder, or metal cutter, to get into the secure building.
It housed all manner of duty-free goods which the company supplies to cruise liners.
The estimated cost price of the haul was £500,000 but the retail value could have been up to £1 million.
Detectives believe the raiders, who would have needed a vehicle to get away with the goods, were looking for cigarettes.
While jewellery was stolen, a bag full of high-value jewellery was also left at the scene.
DC Shaun Screen said: "This was a very well-planned and organised, high-value burglary."
Call the police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
