NAILSEA'S monthly farmers and craft market has been cancelled following forecasts of snowy weather.

Both the markets were due to take place in the town centre this Saturday (January 19) from 9am to 1pm.

But organisers have decided to cancel both events after weather experts forecast heavy snow and ice for North Somerset tomorrow (Friday) and over the weekend.

Nailsea Town Council clerk, Ian Morrell, said: "We felt with the weather forecast that we could not guarantee the safety of people visiting the market.

“OMG!! It's actually happened - an event cancelled because of the threat of some snow! It hasn't even started yet but people are so petrified by the though that someone might fall over that they cancel events in advance. I can safely say, Mr. Morrell, that you are an idiot. Fine - if someone actually finds - when they set off in the morning - that the conditions revent them from getting there, but to pre-empt to this extent is stupidity at it's most extreme. If there is 6" of snow on the ground tomorrow - I will put wellington boots on and walk the 4 miles to work.”
