Mark Wilson to stay at Bristol City, but Matthew Bates must wait and see
Mark Wilson will stay with Bristol City until the end of the season after being handed an extended deal.
But Robins head coach Sean O'Driscoll has still not decided whether to offer central defender Matthew Bates a new contract.

O'Driscoll revealed: "Mark Wilson had a clause in the contract that he originally signed allowing for it to be extended .
"He is still training with us and will be here until the end of the season."

City's head coach has still been unable to run his eye over former Middlesbrough defender Bates, who has been laid low by illness since his short-term contract expired earlier this month.
O'Driscoll said: "Matthew has had gastro-enteritis and been in bed all week, so has not trained.
"We've kept him away from the rest of the players and will have to have a look at him next week.
"To be fair to Matthew, he has agreed to stay down here and come in for training next week so we can have a proper look at him and make an accurate assessment."

“I'm led to believe that Wilson had a clause in his contract guranteeing an extension until the end of the season provided he played a certain number of games, which he has done.”

“If SD is stuck with Bates & Wilson and paying their wages, then we can't be as serious about cost cutting as I thought.Neither are good enough to play week in, week out in the NPC due to their fitness levels.I can't imagine either playing three games in eight days.
McFadzean's not coming (yet) so SD's got his work cut out strengthening the team.If we were paying circa £500k-£700k for him then that's available for the right signing.
Free transfers and loans seem to be the flavour of the month.”
