Mark Regan column: A win at Bedford would be a massive step forward for Bristol Rugby
Mark Regan: It is safe to say we will know a fair bit more about how good this Bristol side are by tomorrow evening.
Their match at Bedford is the biggest test they will have faced so far this season by a considerable distance – so we will know tomorrow just how much work is needed to go and win promotion.

I know it's only the fourth game of the season – and I understand why Paul Hull is playing it down – but this is a big opportunity to put down a marker.
Psychologically, it would be a massive step forward to go to Bedford and win – particularly when there is a good chance they might have to go there again in the play-offs.
Bristol should be confident of winning. I would imagine the camp is a lot happier after their performance against Rotherham last weekend.
I thought the first half was a nine-out-of-10 performance, with Bristol being clinical in attack and showing a big improvement at the contact area. They were getting quick ball and it was Champagne rugby – really ruthless stuff.
The second half was a slight concern and the fact Bristol didn't go on to rack up a 50-point victory left a nasty taste in my mouth. I know it's hard mentally when you know you have won the game by half-time and have scored five tries, and all you are thinking is: "I want a pie and a pint now, let's get it over with."
I thought it was a bit sloppy after half-time – and the boys will need to be better tomorrow. But they should take confidence from the fact they have scored so many tries this season – and that the new signings all appear to be settling in well.
Selection for tomorrow's game will be interesting – with the head coach successfully making nine changes for the Rotherham game and resting guys like Tom Arscott and Lee Robinson.
All in all, there were plenty of positives to come out of the last match – even in the way Bristol Rugby defended when they were without the ball for long periods in the second half. So I think they should be full of confidence going to Bedford.
