BRISTOL City club president Marina Dolman fulfilled a lifelong ambition by visiting Harry's Bar.

Marina, widow of City's former chairman Harry Dolman, had been promised a visit to the famous bar in Venice by her late husband, but they never managed to get there.

So, she was thrilled to officially open the new Harry's Blackthorn Bar at City's Ashton Gate ground at the weekend.

It was only fitting that the guest of honour was Marina, who took over Harry's position as club president following his death in 1977.

The event was attended by some of the most famous Bristol City players from the past, including Norman Hunter, Joe Royle, Gerry Gow, Paul Cheesley and Geoff Merrick.

In officially opening the bar, Marina explained its significance to her, having honeymooned in Venice but never managing to visit the famous Harry's Bar. She said: "Harry always said that we'd go there next time, but there never was a next time – so this bar means a lot.

"This brings back lots of memories. Thank you Blackthorn for the help and wonderful sponsorship to make it happen."

Kevin Smith, City's commercial director, said: "The aim of the bar is to create an area where supporters, former players, guests of the club can meet up in a relaxed and welcoming environment for many seasons to come."

Bob Chaplin, fruit and orcharding manager of Shepton Mallet Cider Mill, said: "Blackthorn has been a long-standing supporter of Bristol City, but this season we have also been made the club's first official principle partner.

"With such a close association, we are immensely proud to be a part of this bar.

"It's Blackthorn's 40th anniversary as well this year, so it feels like a double celebration."

    “@CharlesBridge:

In some quarters, we're in danger of making McInnes into Mourihno.Owen Coyle has just been sacked for having an almost identical record this season and Dels' record up to the eight match run in last season was almost as bad as Millens, prior to his sacking.

In his own words he's acheived nothing so far and has the money available to improve the squad so carping about the Board & SL doesn't match reality.

He needs to act and improve results.”

“Expected to to Marina in a photo gathering with the current back four Nyatanga, Captain calamity Fontaine and the boys on the lash just prior to kick off.

Just imagine the quote, we all love to sink a few loaded with a few shots (on target) ready to run about line headless chickens with zero concentration".

Please SL, you have done so much for our club but we really need to replace our dire central defence & could do with a decent midfield player to replace the midget Johnson clone. With that in place we might well be going placed rather than the bottom 5 all season long.

DM is is doing a great job, but he needs buck for proper players.

Thank you. I'm off to get a natch from the fridge & then off to train with the team.”

Not expecting to get the new ground anytime soon then....”
