Manning's brace helps Bristol Harlequins to make it 12 wins out of 12
Leading scorer Scott Manning claimed two second-half tries as Bristol Harlequins made it 12 from 12 at the top of Somerset Premier with a comfortable 34-8 home win over Chew Valley.
The full-back, a handful whenever he hit the line, notched up his 10th and 11th touchdowns of the campaign after the turnaround as Quins stretched clear.
But the home side did not have things all their own way with Chew, despite being far from full strength, edging the exchanges in the scrum and also battling with great heart to the final whistle.
Flanker Ian Lane gave Quins the perfect start with a third-minute try, Chris Page converting and then adding a 22-metre penalty.
Alex Cameron pulled back three points for Chew on the half hour but, within a minute, Quins pounced for their second try, winger Josh White polishing off an impressive sweeping move, Page converting for a 17-3 lead at the turnaround.
Manning's first try, within seconds of the restart, put Quins in total command, but Chew responded with a score of their own, lock Clayton Davidson powering over from close range.
Quins powered back with Manning's second score before winger Kevin Morgan had the last word, touching down in the left corner, with Page adding an excellent conversion.
The upset of the weekend came in Somerset One, where unbeaten leaders Imperial went down to a shock 10-3 defeat at Bristol Barbarians.
The match was tied 3-3 at the break and turned on a superb opportunist try by Craig Skuse.
Imperial overthrew a line-out on their own 22, and Skuse was first to react, gathering the ball and bashing his way through two would-be tacklers for a converted score. Delighted coach Susie Appleby said: "It was a pretty even match, but we played a really decent tactical game and some sensible rugby."
Gordano, who last week thumped the Barbarians, went top of the league thanks to their 39-0 victory away to Broad Plain.
There were tries for Alex Underhill (2), Matt Poulson, Ben Harvey, Josh Richards and Aaron French, with Poulson adding three conversions and a penalty.
