Mangotsfield 0 Rugby Town 2: With further budget cuts in the offing, Mangotsfield slumped to their sixth successive league defeat which leaves them perched just above the relegation zone to add to manager Paul Milsom's problems.

Rugby, who started the game below Mangotsfield in the table, leapfrogged them to take 15th place, and they fully deserved their victory, which came thanks to two second-half goals from former Cheltenham Town midfielder Scott Musgrove.

Josh Clapham, who returned in goal for Mangotsfield following Richard Fey's decision to return to Frome Town, made a series of brave saves to keep his side in the game.

Clapham did well to take a cross from David Stone from under the crossbar early on before Mangotsfield went close to taking the lead when Marcus Duharty beat his marker only to see his shot go just wide of an upright.

Then Matt Townley broke down the right flank but unfortunately no-one was at the far post to put away his cross, before Duharty turned his marker but saw his low drive go just wide.

Matt Groves then brought a good save from Andy Stevens in the Rugby goal before the visitors went close on a number of occasions as half-time approached.

First Steph Morley's free-kick drifted just wide, then Brian Woodhall put David Kolodynski clear of the defence but his shot was blocked by the overworked Clapham, who had to deny the same player again on the stroke of half-time.

Rugby missed a great chance of taking the lead in the 54th minute when a poor back-pass by Rob Scott put Kolodynski clear of the defence to set up Stone, who failed to hit the target from close range with Clapham stranded. It came as no surprise when Rugby struck in the 61st minute, when Steve Purton's cross from the left was volleyed in by Musgrove at the far post.

Clapham then denied Kolodynski again before Mangotsfield went close when Ellis Wilmot had a shot blocked and Stevens prevented Duharty equalising from the rebound.

Substitute Matt Gearing broke clear down the right in the 72nd minute and his cross gave Musgrove the chance to score from close range and clinch victory for the visitors.
