Forest Green Rovers striker Andy Mangan is in transfer talks with Blue Square Premier rivals Wrexham.

The Liverpool-born striker, who won the Golden Boot with 26 goals in 39 appearances last season, is out of contact at The New Lawn and keen on a move back to the North West.

Mangan is thought to have spoken with a number of other clubs but the 22-year-old currently has a Football Association charge hanging over his head.

Mangan is one of five players being probed by the FA for breaching betting rules. The quintet has been charged with betting on a victory for Bury against Accrington Stanley in the final game of the 2007-08 season.

A panel is to sit next month and, with a number of clubs in pursuit of Mangan, Wrexham's co-assistant manager Brian Carey said the outcome of the hearing would determine if the striker could be enticed away.

"Andrew needs to find out where his future lies," said Carey. "I am not too sure of the ins and outs of (the hearing) so it would be unfair for me to comment.

"Andrew has been offered a deal at Forest Green but he has also got offers elsewhere too. You have to remember we are just one of a number of clubs he has spoken too. I am sure a lot of people will be keeping their eye on Andrew's situation."

Wrexham manager Dean Saunders is no stranger to Mangan, who scored a brace in the Reds boss' first game in charge of Wrexham, the 3-2 victory at Forest Green in October. He followed that up with a goal in the 1-1 draw at The Racecourse in March.

With Saunders eager to bolster his strikeforce, Mangan's goal-scoring exploits have made him one of Wrexham's summer targets.

"The manager has spoken to Andrew a couple of times," said Carey. "The lad got 29 goals overall last season. Andrew is a player that works hard and scores plenty of goals.

"We've known all about Andy the last few years having seen him in action, and he scored in both games against us last season. He has impressed us."
