Two men have died and three others were injured in a crash in Bristol early on Saturday morning.

The accident happened at about 2.20am on the B4057 Winterbourne Road, Stoke Gifford, when a seven-tonne Royal Mail lorry and a black Mercedes car were in collision.

The 26-year-old car driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, all men thought to be in their early 20s, received serious injuries. A second man, aged 17, died from his injuries in Frenchay Hospital later that afternoon.

The others remain in hospital.

A woman who said she was the wife of the Royal Mail driver told the Evening Post that her husband had suffered a broken back in the collision.

He was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary, together with one of the car passengers. The other casualties were taken to Frenchay Hospital.

All the emergency services were called to the accident, with fire fighters cutting the roof from the car to reach one of the men, and the road was still closed this morning.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw the accident or the Mercedes earlier around the Winterbourne area to contact them.

“Paul - you seen the police report - then you will know that my 2 friends have been killed.
    Yes, killed. EP Headlines....
You were not on the scene that morning
and I would also question a lorry driver whom was driving a seven tonne vehicle with only having proper use of ONE arm.
My friends are no longer here, so for you to say things are not a nice thing to say. Have respect for the dead.
Sara - he seems to have it in for you, yes.. what you are asking is what we wonder as well.
Yeah.. what was the word... you jumping to conclusions before the inquest has been heard., not Sara being wrong - she is a family friend of the dead men and I think you have gone to far on some of your statements. She has rights to ask as do all as it is a comments page on here for all.
People are saying on here he had limited movement in his arm - yes his hand may have been ok, but as i am a lorry driver as well, i need to use my arm to move the steering wheel not just my hand - so questionable about how quick his responses would have been...????
Love to my friends in hospital and rest in peace boys...Love and miss you both.”

“Paul, Bristol. No I do not know the driver, but majority of the people writing comments on here doesn't either. Were you at the accident? If so, tell everybody the facts, I'm sure everyone will like to know. Are you a friend/family member/neighbour of the Royal Mail driver? You seem like a very angry person with a grudge against somebody who writes anything bad about the Royal Mail driver, along with some other people on here. I do read over my comments before posting them, so I know what I have written and I still stand by what I posted (and I make sure all my capitals and full stops are in the correct places).

'I just hope your not a Judge, you will have everyone locked up before hearing the Facts' Referring to this comment, you don't even know me so your judging me, just like I'm judging the situation so it's exactly the same, right? I'm sure if I was a judge I would lock up the right people for the right reasons. I know the law a lot better than some people. Just think of karma, what goes around - comes around.”

“Good for you Paul, the injured royal mail driver has a broken back are you now all satisfied. Yes he was allowed to drive with his disability and yes he is a father. What did he do to deserve this apart from go to work and earn a living for his family. He had not been drinking, he was not in a stolen car. This are FACTS which are true so please give the poor man a bit of piece and keep your opinions to yourselfs. Let the other families grieve over there loss and let the royal mail driver and the other 2 passengers recover fron there injuries.”

“Sara Longwellgreen in reply to your comment 09 sep. I must apologise for my mistake Fact 4 should have been Fact 3. You now know which arm his disability is in. Do you know this person as you state his disability effects his driving. Does it? You also state he killed 2 people. Did he? Were you there? Was it not the other driver who took his own life and that of his passenger. Fact, you seem to be judging by your statement he killed two people. Yes we are all entitled to our own opinions but some of us know the real facts. You really need to read what you write first before posting your comments. I just hope your not a Judge, you will have everyone locked up before hearing the Facts.”

“Mike Ford - you are sick.
All people in this world have a right to be what they want. You are the ill-educated one in this. You sad man, you need to get a life.”

“Keep saying RIP everyone, it might bring them back!

I'd say the only driver here with a disability was the 'traveller' who was off of his face on god knows what.
Stop defending them, they are scum and only ill-educated fools like sara will miss them.”

“You are right Sara, i am keeping a look on this for our families. Still in hospital and 2 killed, we do question this disability and i understand fully what you have said about turning it round as these questions would be raised as well.
    RIP my darling friends.
We love you both and hope all gets home to us soon xxx.”
