Man guilty of murdering Bristol student
An 18-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering Bristol student Joe Dymond-Williams.
Joe, 17, of Whitchurch, was punched unconscious before having his head kicked "like a football" when he intervened in row, Bristol Crown Court heard.
He was out with friends in the city centre and stepped in when his friend had a heated exchange with a girl in Queen Charlotte Street.
As he did so Jack Sanderson-Hunt punched Joe to the ground – where he fractured his skull and lay unconscious as Thomas Swift kicked him to the right temple, causing another fracture.
Joe lapsed into a coma and died as a result of head injuries two weeks later.
Sanderson-Hunt, 18, of Dundry View, Bristol, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Swift, 18, of Ellfield Close, Highridge, previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and denied murder.
He accepted he kicked Joe but claimed he did not intend to kick his head, instead to kick his body but stumbled because he was drunk – a claim not accepted by the crown.
But a jury at Bristol Crown Court today found Swift unanimously guilty of murder.
Today Mr Justice Foskett told the duo they would be sentenced at a date to be fixed.
A gifted mathematician, Joe, had just finished his first year of A-levels in psychology, business studies, sports studies and maths at St Brendan’s sixth form college.

“It all good to pass blame on thomas swift who did this terrible thing but unless you know the boy i mean unless you really know who, you shouldnt say anything about him, He is a kind sweet boy and killing anyone is just not in his nature i know for suree. He was sentenced to murder what isnt right in a form, he didnt go out that night to kill anyone and i think everyone knows that but still he gets charged with murder, i cant imagen what joes parents must be feeling and they must hate the thought of thinking about jack or tomas, but the thing is he really isnt a guy/BOY who would do this and i hope his parent relise this, he did it by acciendent and i know this for sure now, He got charged with murder although it was proven that the punch killed him, and he would probally of died of tom kicked him not, Thomas did what most boys his age would do and acted back, and now he is faced with murder, and jack the one who started it all in the first place has got away easily, i also think that the girl who started all this tention and told them where to meet eachother should do some time, as if she didnt tell anyoff them anythiing nothing would of happened, so try not to blame it all on thomas as if you knew him well you wouldnt... x”

“With most of the comments on the two young men who caused the death of joe, lets all remember"there but for the grace of god go i"and as with most sad events such as this there are always two many ifs and buts,if his friends did not argue etc,But i feel the biggest IF is, IF they had not been out UNDER AGE drinking this would never have happend. The law for age limit on drinking is there for a reason, that the age limit may ensure that the person drinking will be aware of the effects of drinking. The fact that ther were so many different accounts of what happened that night proves that people see things in a different light, add drinking to that and it gets even more difficult to get the true facts.I am by no means undermining the very sad loss of a life, time i think for the police to really enforce the law on under age drinkers and the people who serve them.I am sure we all know of people who have had a so called good night out because they were so bladdered, ther could not recall a thing they did or said.”

“Dr Dolittle, Thank you for your obvious concern but I have no need for drugs of any kind. Perhaps you should save you concern for the two killers? Maybe discuss with them the errors of their ways, after all, you can talk with the animals...”

“Anon, how wrong you are, I DON'T HAVE TO KNOW HIM, I know what he has done. Where was his "gift" for decency, humanity and compassion, clearly absent that night and probably on many others too as behaviour like his is as learned as reading and writing. You are clearly a friend / family of one of the boys but remember the family who will never see their son and brother again.”

“Anon, you are right, we don't know Jack as a person and I accept that had Joe not fallen to the ground and hit his head so hard, this potentially could have just ended up in a fight between young lads. But that isn't what happened and as a result of what Jack did, Joe is dead.
So no, I accept, we don't know him BUT we do know (without doubt) that he is a killer and Joe is dead because of what he did.
Which does, I'm afraid make him utterly worthless.”

“"If Sanderson-hunt and Swift live to be a 100 (and I hope they don't) they will never contribute a fraction of what Joe would have contributed to our society." - YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW THEM! this is just such a ridiculous claim! Jack is incredibly gifted, and just because this tragic thing has happened doesn't mean he's worthless.”

“I didn't know Joe very well but I knew his Grandmother and some of his cousins really well and the effect this has had on them is devastating. To compare the families together is ridiculous as Joe's family have lost him forever, as well as this Joe's nan has recently died ( I believe that what happened to Joe is what eventually worsened her condition) and they have lost any chance of seeing what Joe's children would have been like and how well he would have done. With our pathetic justice system these drunken thugs will be out with a few years if they can manage to behave that long and then will have a good 50 to 60 years to forget all about Joe and what they have ruined!
Alcohol is the bane of this society and youngsters who can't handle their drink are making a mockery of this country!!”
