A Shirehampton man who admitted an assault at a Bristol club, has been handed a 12-month community order.

Bristol Crown Court heard Kieron Jenkins pushed Michael Campbell when Mr Campbell intervened during an incident at Lawrence Weston Social Club.

Mr Campbell fell and was knocked out. He suffered cuts to his head, which required 10 staples.

Jenkins, 23, of Mancroft Avenue, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm following the incident in June last year.

A judge yesterday ordered Jenkins to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work and told him to pay £600 compensation to his victim and £150 prosecution costs.

Jason Taylor, defending, stressed his client was not a violent man and circumstances had got very much out of his control.

The court heard Jenkins was a man of previous good character who was "incredibly ashamed" of what happened.

Imposing sentence Judge William Hart told him: "You pushed him and the result was he hit his head, causing a nasty laceration. I'm quite satisfied you didn't intend any injury and this conduct was out of character."
