A MAN raped a woman after threatening to break her neck, a court heard.
Dean Meredith, 31, of North Street, Bedminster, denies two rapes in May.
Bristol Crown Court was told yesterday Meredith forced himself on the complainant when she visited his hostel room.
Ian Fenny, prosecuting, said Meredith began reading a spiritual book to the woman and his mood changed when she said she didn't want to listen.

Mr Fenny said: "Every instinct told her that she should leave the bedroom. The defendant grabbed hold of her. He forcibly pulled her backwards and threw her on to the bed.
"He jumped on top of her and she remonstrated with him. He threat- ened her and it was very clear. He threatened to break her neck."
It was then that, fearing Meredith would carry out his threat, the woman was raped, the court heard.
When she reported the attack he maintained she started intimacy and he responded, the court heard.
The case continues.
