A force spokeswoman said: "We would like to thank members of the public and the media who helped to spread our appeal yesterday."
At first it was believed the man might have been the victim of an assault but a post-mortem examination later found that his injuries were consistent with a fall.
Police said the matter had been referred to the coroner, who is in charge of investigations into non-suspicious deaths.
