Man charged with attempted murder on Christmas Day
A PATCHWAY man appeared at Bristol Crown Court charged with attempted murder on Christmas Day.
Matthew Bennett, 25, of Cranbourne Road, appeared via video link from HMP Bristol for the five-minute hearing.

An earlier North Avon Magistrates' Court hearing heard Bennett is charged with attempted murder following an attack on John Houghton, aged 29, which left him in a coma with "life threatening and life changing injuries".
Bennett is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon – namely a hammer – in Cranbourne Road and Cedar Close in Patchway.

Police were called to Cedar Close at around 2.15am on Christmas Day after reports of two men being involved in a verbal altercation.
Following the incident Mr Houghton was rushed to Frenchay Hospital,
Bennett was remanded in custody, pending a plea and case management hearing on March 15 and projected four-day trial starting on June 3.
