A KINGSWOOD man raped an 80-year-old woman, a jury heard.

James Dowsett, right, exposed himself to the pensioner, then forced himself on her, it was claimed at the city's Crown Court yesterday.

Dowsett, 51, of Claymore Crescent, denies rape in March last year.

Jane Rowley, prosecuting, said that after the alleged assault, Dowsett told the woman: "You are very beautiful."

The woman told her daughter and GP what happened, prompting a police investigation in which Dowsett flatly denied raping her.

The frail, elderly complainant gave evidence from the witness box, sat behind a screen.

She told the jury: "Afterwards he said 'You are beautiful'."

When the rape accusation was put to him, Dowsett denied wrongdoing, telling police: "It is a litany of lies. She was demented."

But the woman insisted: "It really happened. It was the first time in my whole bloody life I was forced to make love."

The case continues.
