Man, 85, died after fall at Bristol Royal Infirmary
An 85-year-old Whitchurch man died after falling at Bristol Royal Infirmary, an inquest heard.
Retired engineer's technician John Moore, who lived in Blackdown Court, died from the impact of the last of four falls he suffered when he was a patient there on September 22 last year.
Avon deputy coroner Terry Moore recorded a verdict of accidental death on the case at Flax Bourton yesterday.
The hearing was told that married Mr Moore died on September 30 after suffering a bleed on the brain as a result of slipping off a chair.
He had been admitted to the hospital in July 2008 after a stroke and had a number of health problems.
The coroner heard that Mr Moore was often confused and tried to get up from his bed unaided when he was not capable of doing so.
Concluding the case, he said: "He had a number of medical problems. He was confused, had a lack of awareness of his difficulties and had a propensity to fall.
"He had four falls and what appeared to be an innocuous slip off a chair is likely to have caused the subdural hematoma and that's the medical cause of death.
"There's nothing in the standard of care or in the way he was looked after to suggest anyone was neglected."
