Making more of Bristol's green spaces
Allotments in Patchway have been treated to a makeover.
The allotments, in Pretoria Road, were given a makeover by Fiskars Orange Thumb – a scheme that provides community groups with tools and materials to clean up and make more of green spaces.
The Patchway Intervention Project applied for the allotments to provide children with a way to learn new skills.
The project, funded by the Youth Justice Board and Tudor Trust, supports young people at risk of offending or social exclusion.
A team of volunteers cut back and dug over the plot and by the end of the day they were able to plant crops for harvest next year.
The allotment will be used by the Patchway Intervention Project to engage and educate the children, culminating in a dinner which the children will prepare and cook with the home-grown produce.
