MP launches holiday charity for servicemen
NORTH Somerset MP Liam Fox is urging people with holiday homes to make them available to injured soldiers.
Today the former Defence Secretary launches a charity called Give Us Time. It aims to provide families with week-long stays in second homes, holiday homes and timeshares across the UK and around the world.

North Somerset MP Dr Liam Fox wants second home owners to help servicemen and women
Property owners will be asked to sign up to a database, setting out when their homes are available.
Dr Fox said he had become "frustrated" with the lack of support for people who have suffered psychologically during service.

He is to write to all MPs asking them to "lead by example".
He told the Post: "This is about what the people of Britain, not the Government, can do to help the Armed Forces. It is the epitome of the Big Society."
The homes will be made available free for servicemen and women and their families, apart from a contribution towards an insurance policy for the owners.
Virgin Rail has offered to provide free tail travel to UK homes for the families involved. A fund will be set up to cover other costs.
Dr Fox paid tribute to Bristol-based branding company Fanatic, which carried out the design work ahead of today's official launch.
The property database opens today for owners to add their homes. Families will be able to sign up to the service, and request specific holidays, from September.

“Mr Fox,
you make my blood boil, try looking a little closer to home.
The millions (even billions) on wasted needless procurements, top military brass with all their little clerks running around after them.
Contractors taking the "P' on refurbishment overruns.
The people we need to look after the most "The Frontline" get charity!!
Yes of course this encompasses many services NHS included ...and so many others.
Think Again.”

“Pick and chhose those who are "needy"..
Why not make the homes available to single mums from council flats? OR those who need a break more than ex-soldiers?”

“I won't make my holiday home available to servicemen and servicewomen unless they are allowed to bring their best man, 'special' friend and former flat mate with them.
Like Dr Fox says... "Lead by example"”

“Isn't this kind of thing just a way assuaging rich familes like the "Fox's" guilt for sending/conscripting poor people away to do their fighting for them?
They get injured and the nice Fox family are seen to be helping them out by giving them a time share for a week.”

“J.F. When you say millions of British servicemen have died ,so to allow us freedom of speech. You are meaning those who were conscripted , to fight in the two world wars. That is a very different scenario, to a volunteer in a professional army .”

“To J Fox
I agree with Docklobster.
If the services are to get free holidays why shouldn't everyone else? We all work and contribute towards our society.
It's fools like you that create divisions with our society.”

“This new charity "Give Us Time" is a brilliant idea for our armed forces and their families. If anyone deserves an initiative like this, it is those who are sent to fight a war which they cannot necessarily understand and who return with short or long term medical problems.
But why do I feel concerned that the MP heading this campaign is one who needs to up his public profile after such critical press coverage? Why did he feel the need to link this charity to the Conservative idea of a "Big Society" which immediately made me fear that our armed forces may be being used politically. Hope I am wrong to be cynical about this.”

“A great idea.
To those clowns being negative on this website, a quick reminder that millions of British men and woman over the years gave their lives or were injured so you have the right to free speech.
Suggest you think before you speak and choose your words carefully, for fear of being viewed as ignorant intellectual minnows whom are not bright enough to grasp the utter luxury of living in a free country, kept so by brave service-people.”

“Hi Mr Fox, I was made unemployed thanks to the Conservative austerity cuts (just before the tax decrease for the rich was introduced) Can you arrange for me to have my rent paid, go on holiday and care for my family please...?”
