M shed creators receive award for build quality
BRISTOL museum M shed has won an award for the work by the builders and architects who created it.
The museum has been given a Bristol Building Excellence Award in the "community building" category.
The award recognises good working relationships between building professionals – in the case of M shed this involved the council's building control team, the architects LAB and the contractors BAM.
The award is administered by Local Authority Building Control (LABC), which promotes the design and construction of safe, accessible, environmentally efficient buildings.

M shed's win will be carried forward for consideration in the regional LABC awards, with the winners announced in mid June.
"Our working relationships with M shed's principal contractor, BAM, and LAB Architects were first class," said Dave Fletcher, building control manager at Bristol City Council.
"I'm delighted to have been able to nominate this project for an award recognising the relationship with BAM and LAB Architects as it shows how – from a construction and technical building control point of view – we worked together to overcome technical issues and identify innovative and creative solutions."
Julie Finch, head of Bristol's museum service, added: "M shed was a challenging building development – it is after all a former 1950s transit shed located on Bristol's historic harbour.
"Its transformation into one of the UK's top museums and visitors attractions could not have been achieved without excellent, professional team work and trust between the contractors, the architects and our own building regulation team.
"I congratulate them on their award, their excellence has certainly contributed to M shed's on-going success."

“Habg on, Dave Fletcher, building control manager at Bristol City Council.made the nomination of M Shed? That's hardly independent is it? I guess BCC had to step in as nobody else could be bothered with this dreary, delayed and expensive vanity project.”
