Luke Jacobs led all the way for an impressive victory in the junior boys' race at the North Somerset Schools' Cross Country Championships, held at Blaise Castle.

The 13-year-old Broadoak School student always looked in control as he held off a challenge from the Gordano pair of Cameron Coetzee and Miles Chandler.

"That's my first North Somerset Schools' title and I'm really pleased to win," said Jacobs.

There was also a first district title for Backwell School's Rosie Parsons as she lifted the junior girls' title from Gordano's Chloe Simmons.

Clevedon School's Sophie Feboul was a champion two years ago, and the 14-year-old was surprised to be crowned inter girls' winner after she defeated favourite Elsa Bromhall.

"I was a bit surprised to win as I don't do much running really," said Feboul. "But Elsa fell on the first lap and I then caught and overtook her, so she may have been feeling it."

Priory School students Curtis Watkins and Alex Macaulay, who had been training together for the event, enjoyed a one-two in the inter boys' race. Watkins, 15, produced a strong finish to claim top spot.

"I was expecting to come in the top five after a recent knee injury playing football, so I'm pleased to win that," said Watkins.

Nailsea School's only win came courtesy of Abi Sandor in the minor event, while the High Down Juniors, Portishead, pair of Alys Withers and Cecilie Andersen claimed a one-two in the primary girls' race.

Sidcot School's Ben Cox lifted the senior boys' title but there were no senior girls entered.

Kody Mortimer unleashed a superb sprint finish to snatch the minor boys' title. The 11-year-old Blackwell School student finally shook off Clevedon School's Joe Teall after a tense duel.
