At just 21 years old Bristol sprinter Emily Diamond has been selected for the Olympic 4x400m relay squad. She joins marathon runner, and fellow Bristol and West Athletic Club member Claire Hallissey, in the call up for the London 2012 Olympics.

Her selection, in only her first season of competing in the event, marks a resurgence of the athletics scene in Bristol as huge investments in new tracks and facilities in the city begin to pay off.

The Bristol and West AC club, which trains at the Kip Keino Athletics Stadium in Stoke Gifford and the new Whitehall Athletics Arena, has hundreds of members from Olympic athletes, recreational runners to junior competitors taking their first steps in the sport.

Pamela Parkes went to meet Keith Brackstone, who coached Claire Hallissey while she was at Bristol University and is now Development Adviser for the Bristol and West AC. As well as congratulating the club's new Olympians in this video he explains what's in store for Bristol's athletes in the future.

“Very, very good luck to both these athletes, and how fortunate for them to be given so much notice, this will give them the opportunity to save for the majority of their rail fare!.”
