Pupils at Lockleaze Primary School and Early Years Centre are celebrating two footballing successes – without kicking a ball.

he children have been awarded £400 worth of new football kit by the Football Foundation, Britain's largest sports charity.

The school, in Brangwyn Grove, has also been awarded a Football Foundation Goalpost Safety Grant of £375 to buy new, safe goalposts.

The Football Foundation provides £1 million of kit and equipment vouchers to junior clubs and schools, ensuring young players of all abilities have the best possible start in the game.

It is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game and developing football as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country.

The foundation is funded by the Premier League, the Football Association and the Government.

The school's director of football, Shaine Graham, said: "This funding is a fantastic boost. Football is our national sport and it is great that the foundation is investing in improving the grass roots of the game."
