Keen rivalry between Steve Masters and Dean Cutler resulted with a major win for both in the Swindon club's third grass track meeting of the season at Dauntsey on Sunday.

Masters won the restricted licence holders final after rounding Cutler on the penultimate lap of a four-lap thriller.

The duo were neck and neck for most of the Open final until Masters went out with clutch problems with little more than a lap remaining to hand victory to Cutler.

John Jefferies was the complete master of the 350cc class, winning all four-point scoring races on the Grangewood Farm circuit.

Ben Ilsley won the 250cc class, but he was given a hard time in all his races by Darren Knights.

David Hammond, from nearby South Cerney, was also in good form, winning the Pre 1975 500cc class and the 350cc upright engines event, while Chris Mackett was unbeaten in the Pre 1975 350cc class.

Chippenham's Stephen Sword looks to be on his way to a 250cc class British Motocross Championship win after winning both fifth-round races in the Maxxis tyres backed series at Lyng in Norfolk on Sunday.

He won the first 17-lap race on the Cadders Hill circuit by 10 seconds after passing early leader Jake Nicholls on the second lap.

Ulsterman Martin Barr was his closest rival for most of the second race but Nicholls passed the latter on the final lap to finish just seven seconds behind Sword.

Brad Anderson and Gareth Swanepeol shared the two Open class races.

Anderson now has a 46-point advantage over James Noble, while the latter is just two points up on Swanepeol with the rest of the field nowhere in sight.

James Dabbill, Mike Brown and Alex Wigg took the top three places in the West of England club's recent British trial Championship round at Ilsington on Dartmoor, and they finished in exactly the same positions in Sunday's sixth round staged by the Torridge club at Peter Tavy.

But this one was a lot tougher, with only the top three losing less than a hundred marks in three laps of 12 super-tough sections at Browsenter Farm.

Yeovil's Ricky Wiggins kept his title hopes alive in the Expert B class event by finishing third behind John Crinson and Sam Ludgate.
