FIREBRANDS gained a deserved Slazenger EHA National Conference West victory, defeating Whitchurch 4-2.

Firebrands were 2-0 ahead at half-time through goals from Ed Miller and a penalty stroke from Tom Harris, his first National League goal.

Andy Edwards grabbed a third shortly after the interval and, although the home side reduced the deficit, Dan Nicoll scored his side's fourth to extend their advantage and secure a welcome victory.

Firebrands' Ladies slipped to a surprise 5-3 home defeat to Aldridge in National Conference West.

Emily Atkinson and Georgie Field gave the home side a 2-0 lead only for the visitors to equalise before half-time.

Aldridge scored a further three goals in the second half before Sophie Boyle reduced the deficit.

In the EHA Premier Division, Clifton Ladies gave unbeaten leaders Bowdon Hightown a scare before going down 2-1. Sandra Frankland equalised an early Tina Cullen goal for the visitors who had to wait until the last quarter before Cullen grabbed their winner.

All three National League sides have a break from league action this week, turning their attention instead to the EHA Cup.

Firebrands' Ladies visit table-topping University of Birmingham on Sunday while their men's side entertain Spencer, from London, at Failand (2pm).

Clifton Ladies are also at home against Slough at Coombe Dingle (noon).

In N4 Financial Solutions Wales and West Premier One, Westbury/Utd Banks defeated Cardiff University 4-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Joe Thomas and a Neil Richardson goal.

Duncan Armsby and Andy Smearle were on target for the 2nds in their 3-2 defeat to Robinsons B.

Nathan Walkey (three), Will Holmes (two), Charlie Ross (two) and James Pearce-Smith scored in Westbury/Utd Banks 3rds' 8-3 win over Firebrands D.

Jez Longden scored the only goal for the 5ths, who defeated Robinsons D 1-0.

In West Women's Premier One, Redland Ladies' poor start continued when they lost 4-2 against Cheltenham, with Suzannah Reynolds scoring both goals. Redland Ladies 2nds lost to Bristol University seconds 2-0, while Redland Ladies 3rds drew 2-2 with Lydney 3rds.
