Rockleaze Avonside Vs Shirehampton - Star Man:

NO one player really stood out in the GFA Challenge Trophy tie between Rockleaze Avonside and Shirehampton, which Shirehampton won 1-0.

But there were impressive performances from Shirehampton substitute Dan Griffiths, Rockleaze's stand-in captain Mike Low and keeper Manni Pullara – the latter providing some great saves to keep Rockleaze in the game until an own goal late on.

However, it was the Shirehampton veteran Martin Cook that best summed up the visitors' attitude to the game.

The target man was effectively employed by Shirehampton, ruffling a few feathers in the Rockleaze defence and providing the only real attacking outlet for the away side until the quicker Dan Griffiths came on as a substitute.

Although missing a great chance to add a goal to his Star Man performance, when he headed the ball over the crossbar despite being unmarked in the six-yard box, Cook's determination throughout the match added an edge to his team's performance.

He dropped back to the centre of defence late on and used his aerial ability and physical presence to ensure a clean sheet was kept, along with a place in the second round.
