Local is best for relaunch of market
LOCAL produce from bread and cheese to pies and chutney were on sale when the popular Whiteladies Road Farmers' and Fair Trading Market was re-launched.
New attractions such as live music and a market cafe are now included to join the stalls selling food and drink twice a month.
Among producers at the event were Leigh Court Farm and Bordeaux Quay, with cream teas served by Bristol-based Cornish food specialists Mullion Cove. Whitelake Cheese and Trethowan's Dairy also joined the stallholders on the corner of Apsley Road and Whiteladies Road, while children could get close to ducklings and baby rabbits, have their faces painted and join a sing-along with musician Paul Bradley.
The market takes place on the first and third Saturday of the month from 8.30am to 2pm and the next one will be on July 17, when it is hoped to have cookery demonstrations.
Spokeswoman Lorna Knapman said: "We now hope to go weekly by the end of the year."
