Ben Morley won the second Weston Prom race of the 2009-10 winter series to make it two out of two.

Morley, who competes for Great Western Runners, clocked a personal best 26mins 40secs to carve 14 seconds off his time in last month's opening event.

Matt Newman was runner-up again while Bitton Road Runners' Mike Blackmore was third .

Clevedon veteran Viv McConnell followed up her good run in Saturday's Gloucestershire Cross Country League race to win the women's race.

In his first marathon for almost a year, Britain's number one Dan Robinson is hoping to make a big impact in the Amsterdam race tomorrow.

The Nailsworth international's last outing was a disappointing 2hrs 19mins 10secs in the Fukuoka marathon just over two months after his 22nd place in the Beijing Olympics.

"I'm feeling very positive about Sunday's race," said Robinson. "I'm feeling fresh and anything around 2hrs 15mins would put me top of the UK rankings for 2009 and be very satisfying."

Joining Robinson in Holland will be Will Hillier, Jo Ross, Andy Smith, Pete Tanner, Matt Widdup and Lucy Woodhams, from Great Western Runners.

Westbury Harriers Under-13 girls started the Gwent League season in fine style with Poppy Thompson 13th, Sophie Nash 26th and Holly Sawyer 30th.

In the Under-15 girls race, Victoria Kenny had one of her best races to finish eighth with Iris McNeill 13th and Abi Johnson 21st.

A sprints and relays coaching masterclass is being staged by the Avon Athletics Network and England Athletics at the WISE Campus, Filton High School, on Saturday, November 28.

The session will be led by top British relay coach Roger Walters and is aimed at speed coaches at whatever level of experience but particularly at level 1 and 2 coaches.

Hogweed Trotters' Adrian Pook finished 43rd in the inaugural Eden Project marathon, covering the 26.2 miles multi terrain course in 3hrs 40mins 57secs. Clubmate Lee Masters clocked 3:54.47 in 72nd place of the 306 finishers.

Bitton Road Runners' Neil Banbury was 57th from 773 finishers in the Eden Project half marathon in a time of 1:41.02. Alison Ramsey, of Hogweed Trotters, was 110th (1:47.10).

Stroud teenager Tom Curr will represent Great Britain in the 3000m at the World Schools' Games in Doha in December.

Ross Hale finished 51st (1:41.56) to lead the Bitton Road Runners' contingent at the Mendip Muddle 20k. Mike Duggan (1:46.100 and Lisa Duggan 2:09.07) also took part.

It has been confirmed that the Westbury Harriers senior women's squad finished third in the team contest at the opening Gwent Cross Country League match in Bridgend.

Westbury's top finisher was Debbie Marsden in 17th with Sophie Voller also in the top 20.

Entries are now being taken for the Avon & Somerset Cross Country Championships, which will be staged at Hestercombe Gardens in Taunton and incorporated into the third Gwent League fixture on Sunday, December 6.
