Local athletics performance of the week
It is not strictly an athletic performance this week, but there can be no doubt that Great Britain international athlete Rob Whalley took part in arguably the most important fixture of his life on Saturday – when he married Helen Robinson.
Whalley, a member of Bristol & West AC, put aside his usual running gear for a smart suit as the pair tied the knot at Corsham Church before moving on to the Park Resort, in Wick, to host the reception.
"It was a fantastic day and everything came together as planned," said Whalley, who has represented his country in cross country and road races, including the World Cross Country Championships.
"And even the sun shone on us, so we couldn't have asked for more."
Helen, who is an HR manager at the Aztec West business park in north Bristol, has also taken up running since meeting Whalley, who works as a duty manager at the Sports Training Village at Bath University and has completed the Bath half marathon.
Among the guests were Bristol & West club-mates Neville Adams and Ben Noad while long-time coach Mike Down was at the reception. The pair, who have flown to Canada for their honeymoon, will make their home in Corsham.
