The cool autumn weather and falling water temperatures have helped to clear some of the algae at most of Bristol Water Fisheries.
At Chew Valley Lake, the trout have been finding food in the very shallowest water, making fishing very difficult for boat anglers. Bank fishermen have found the best places to be North Shore, the picnic areas, Woodford, Villice and Nunnery Point.
The top flies were Diawl Bachs, Pheasant Tail Nymphs and Crunchers.
The best fishing at Blagdon, as at Chew, has been close to the banks. Depending on wind direction, many of the shallowest areas have proved worthwhile.
Pegs, Ash Trees and Rugmoor Bay have proved the most productive with most fish falling to dries and emergers.
The best fish of the week was taken by Blagdon ranger Phil Kennell, who used an Orange Hopper to tempt a 7-12-0 rainbow trout from the Bell's Bush area.
All three Barrow Tanks are fishing well. Small flies fished on floating lines are taking the lion's share.
Catch results: Chew Valley Lake, 227 fish were taken by 133 rods at an average of 1.7 per rod. Blagdon, 173 fish were caught by 90 rods at an average 1.9 per rod. Barrows, 165 fish taken by 63 rods at an average of 2.6 per rod.
A waggler and worm combination, fished at nine metres centre off peg 13, came up with a winning three-carp catch, totalling 12-0-0, for Paul Davies in the Alcove AC match, fished at The Clamp, near Iron Acton.
Second-placed Bob 'The Bread' Price poled a variety of baits at three metres centre off peg six for two carp weighing 7-12-0, while press officer Ian Sheppard poled soft pellet into his lakeside margins of peg five to tempt two smaller specimens, weighing 4-10-0.
