2009: Hamburg midfielder Nigel de Jong signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City. Tottenham beat Burnley 6-4 on aggregate to reach the Carling Cup final after losing 3-2 in the semi-final, second leg at Turf Moor. Spurs also confirmed they had agreed a deal to sign midfielder Wilson Palacios from Wigan, subject to the player being granted a work permit.
