2003: Liverpool booked their passage to the League Cup final by beating Sheffield United 3-2 on aggregate. Les Ferdinand signed for West Ham from Tottenham, while Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson confirmed he had made bids for Jonathan Woodgate and Kleberson.

Tottenham beat Burnley 6-4 on aggregate to reach the Carling Cup final after losing 3-2 in the semi-final, second leg at Turf Moor. Spurs also confirmed they had agreed a deal to sign midfielder Wilson Palacios from Wigan, subject to the player being granted a work permit.
