While I totally agree that driving a bus on the pavement is unacceptable, so was the cause.

Despite the suspension bridge being shut for three days in the near future, the whole area around Clifton Down was brought to a stop by two workmen who, having closed one lane on the bridge, were working on the hangers. This was during one of the busiest times of the week; a Friday afternoon.

So have a thought for the bus driver who was trying to complete his journey, unlike the bridge management who take our money but don't care if they cause disruption.

Bob Bull,

Avon and Somerset coordinator.

Association of British Drivers.

“Alexander, you need a better hobby!! At times we need to overlook rules to benefit others and as someone who uses public transport daily, there are times when it can be beneficial. If we are to encourage people to use public transport, which we should be, then the buses need to keep to their schedule. The driver didn`t carry this out in a dangerous manner.”

“What`s all this rubbish about the Bus, the guy was right to go up the pavement. He was only going very slowly.
Cyclists go on pavements, pedestrians jay walk, Motorcyclists overtake on the inside. Get a life, who wants to sit on a Bus in a queue.”

“That bus driver should be sacked and banned as well. they are all nazis and break so many laws it is untrue. I have started a photographic log of buses driving on the wrong side of the road and will be sending this to council when I reach 100 instances. Already at 37 and have only been doing it for 2 days.”

“Has Mr Bull ever considered that there may have been some pressing reason to stop the bridge and fix something. As its all wood underneath, and pretty old. Me, I'm, glad it gets maintained. Better to have some people wait for a bit than to die screaming as you fall into the Avon with the rest of the bridge users.”
