THE day Jimmy Savile died I thought is was a shame and commented such to a friend of mine. He in turn was shocked and basically said that as he was now dead the truth would come out. I asked "What truth?" He then explained that there had always been allegations about Savile's attraction to young girls.

For many it is a bitter pill to swallow. The nation's favourite uncle who use to entertain us and then later made himself an icon with his charitable work – which is now looking like it made him untouchable in some way.

  1. Jimmy Saville

    Jimmy Saville

No one ever questioned this man. It appears Savile was just somebody you didn't want to mess with. It's true he made millions for charity and it's true he was a DJ icon of sorts, it's also true his private life was very, very questionable.

But let's say it out in the open: rapists and paedophiles have absolutely no place in society.

“When the news began breaking about Jimmy Savile it had a feeling of surrealism about it because here we had a person who had previously been held up as a National treasure being vilified now that he was dead and could do nothing to defend himself. This initial feeling gradually faded away as the body of evidence mounted against him but just as shocking is how it had been concealed and covered up for so long.

General reports in the media and TV are ready to express that preying on the under aged was the culture of the past as if we are to deduce that it is now no longer taking place. Also those being rounded up for questioning as a result of the various ongoing investigations and making it to the news are generally small fry in the scheme of things with the likes of Garry Glitter at hand to be continuously recycled fodder. This becomes more and more apparent at each such report which then prompts the contrasting questions about about Tony Blair slapping a D notice on the results of Operation Ore, the testimony of Ben Fellows and also what has been taking place against older students at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College.

With so many reports coming out today regarding Savile I wanted to know more about these other issues to gain a better overview and in searching was happy to discover that Tom Watson had already put his head above the parapet to pose relevant questions at Prime Minister's question time in October:

This last one is information about the D Notice which points to the fact that paedophilia is more wide spread than we are led to believe and some claim elsewhere also protected Jimmy Savile.

“pillowfight: "What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?"

    a) It's posthumus so won't go to court but instead an Inquiry will work on the balance of probability
    b) As the officer leading the Police investigation said on TV earlier this week: The evidence is overwhelmingly against Savile.”

“How many people were genuinely surprised by this? What surprises me is how many people are now coming forward. What was going on in the past? Were people genuinely intimidated by his celebrity, or were the stories suppressed, or what?”

“Dr Max Jones wrote "But let's say it out in the open: rapists and paedophiles have absolutely no place in society."

Oh yeah, you're being really brave there coming out against that most loved and respected offenders by the British public: rapists and paedophiles. Are you not worried about the millions and millions of Britains who truely believe paedophilia absolutely does have a place in society?

Exactly how low is the bar to get "letter of the day"?”
