Bristol's Lee Hassall beat off the challenge from Crewkerne teenager Ben Bramwell to win the Mendip Vale Club's Phoenix Cup Trial at East Horrington on Sunday.

A 60-strong line-up contested the event at Washingpool Farm where the 11th section, a steep climb and descent, claimed most marks.

South Somerset's Shane Lovatt was second in the Wessex Centre Timed and Observation Trial at Hanham Mills on Saturday behind winner Jason Hamblin.

British Classic Bike champion Andy Roberton scored six wins from as many races in the Bath Club meeting at Yatton Keynell.

Remedies Bar Championship Expert Class leader John May, from Bristol, was involved in a crash in the first race of the sixth round in Cornwall, but rejoined to finish fifth. He maintained his lead with a second place in the second race.
