The 19 year-old, seen by many as the game's most promising potter, was shocked 10-8 by Trowbridge cueman Lee at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Trump raced into his four-frame lead with some sparkling break building, as he notched up a 137, 76, 63 and 52.
It was only in the evening session when the wheels started to come off Trump's game. He had taken a 6-3 lead into the interval, but Lee came out all guns blazing.
And he said: "There's a bit of local rivalry there. He fluked a few balls and didn't put his hand up. Christ, it's only a game!
"The boy's good, there's no doubt about it, but I'm glad I've beaten him.
"All I've heard about in the last five years is how good he is. He's blown a 6-3 lead and I hope that will stick with him for a while yet."
