BUDDING chefs will be given the chance next month to learn how to use up "waste food".

On Tuesday, September 14, chefs from Bristol's award- winning Thali Cafe will give a free cooking demonstration using food that would otherwise be destined for landfill, reprocessed as animal feed or otherwise wasted.

The event is being organised by FareShare South West, which collects surplus food from producers and suppliers within the food industry and redistributes it to those in need.

The demonstration is being held at Bordeaux Quay for groups that FareShare South West work with.

Jacqui Reeves, manager of FareShare South West, said: "We are so pleased we have been able to arrange this cooking demonstration and would like to thank Bordeaux Quay and the Thali cafe for helping this to happen.

"To be able to pass on recipes and tips to cook nutritious, cheap and easy dishes will allow our community projects to save more on their food bills and redirect these funds to other valuable services."

Claire Allan, manager of Bordeaux Quay Cookery School, said: "The Cookery School is pleased to provide the space, resources and equipment to teach individuals how to cook real meals using surplus ingredients."

Sam Hackett, director of Thali Cafe, added: "We recognise the importance of Fareshare's work to avoid the wasteful practices in the food industry, and saving food from the landfill.

"Our business is set up to thrive with minimum impact on the environment, bringing delicious food to our customers."
