Leagues need to sort out the rules
IN ThePost July 27 Tony Hitch Hon Secretary of the Bristol and District Cricket League stated 'There is no provision in the rules for the abandonment of promotion and relegation due to bad weather. I assume that the W of England Premier League rules are the same. Can I assume that there will be propositions at both leagues' AGMs to rectify this situation, where some clubs lost nearly 50% of their fixtures and were probably in a false position in the league placings?
Also can I suggest that the WEPL take steps to remove the arrangement for abandoned matches. You are awarded eight points if you cancel but if your ground staff work their socks off getting the ground fit for play then the match is abandoned you get five points. I say zero points for both situations.
One can only hope we don't have a repeat performance with the weather next season. Can the leagues sort out the rules? I hope so.
