Late Rosslyn Park try denies Dings Crusaders victory
Dings Crusaders 14 Rosslyn Park 16: Dings fell just one minute short of beating high-flying Rosslyn Park when the visitors took the lead for the first time in the match with a try on 79 minutes.
Dings, who led 11-3 at half-time, put in a brilliant defensive display that looked to have secured the win, but Rosslyn Park showed great application to take the points
Dings led 6-0 by the 10th minute after two Tom Lukjaniec penalties.
Stand-off Dylan Pugh reduced the arrears with a penalty after Dings hooker Dave Wheeler had been sent to the sin bin.
The game now opened up into end-to-end action with both sides well committed and some fierce tackling at both ends, with Dings centre Alex Dancer in great form and making some crunching tackles.
Lukjaniec went close for Dings with three long-range penalty attempts and a drop goal that was inches wide before Dings extended their lead on 34 minutes.
Wing Sam Caven ran back a clearance into the Rosslyn Park half to set the ball up, then scrum-half Neil Dipple broke blind and found flanker Pierre Panizzutti, who fed prop Chas Meddick for a try in the corner for 11-3 to Dings at halftime.
The second half saw the visitors spending long spells in the Dings half, and on 65 minutes Rosslyn Park got their first try after pressure sucked in the Dings defence for outstanding wing John Swords to score in the corner.
Dings struck back within two minutes, with Lukjaniec's third penalty extending the home side's lead to 14-8.
With some outstanding defence Dings held out until five minutes from time, when Pugh added a penalty to set up a storming finale. With the clock ticking down the visitors mounted their final attack and some neat inter-passing wide on the right saw wing James Strong eventually break the Dings defence for a try in the corner to claim the win.
