Lane penalty double gives Paulton Rovers first win in seven

Paulton Rovers 2 AFC Hayes 1: Two first-half penalties from Chris Lane gave Paulton Rovers their first victory in seven games.

Paulton went ahead when skipper Dan Cleverley broke from just inside his own half with a mazy run before being felled in the penalty area.

Lane gave goalkeeper Mark Philpot no chance from the spot. Lane almost got a second and both Ollie Price and Josh Jefferies also went close to doubling the advantage.

Lane finally increase the deficit after being brought down by Philpot. He was lucky not to be dismissed but his fortune ran out as Lane sent him the wrong way from the spot for a second time.

Hayes had never been in the game during the opening period but improved after the break. Victor Osubu and Ahir Ross both went close before Paulton lost Cleverley with a knee injury after 57 minutes. the visitors did managed to pull a goal back soon after: Osubu scoring from close range.

It served as a wake-up call for Paulton and Jason Hughes went close went close before Paulton before Rob Cousins rattled the crossbar with a powerful effort. Stuart Tovey also forced Philpot into a brilliant save in the dying stages.
