A LANDSLIDE caused delays for rail passengers travelling from Bristol Parkway station.

The incident at Chipping Sodbury yesterday morning closed the main route for trains heading from the station to Swindon and Paddington.

The landslip, spotted at about 8.30am, was on the westbound Badminton line near Chipping Sodbury Tunnel and forced lines in both directions to shut.

Trains were unable to call at Bristol Parkway and a bus replacement service had to run to take passengers to and from Patchway instead.

Services between Paddington and Wales were diverted from Swindon via the Box tunnel, near Bath, with many trains cancelled or delayed.

A small area was cleared which allowed the line to re-open around 4.30pm with a 5mph speed limit but it was due to be shut overnight so barriers could be put up and the rest of the soil could be cleared.
