Labour names new team for Bristol
Labour has announced its front-bench line-up on Bristol City Council following the party's decision to stand down last month.
Councillor Helen Holland (Whitchurch Park), the former leader of the council, remains leader of the 24-strong Labour group.
The members of her cabinet when in power are lined up as the new shadow cabinet to spearhead opposition to the Liberal Democrat regime, which took over the council on February 24.
Former deputy council leader Peter Hammond (Southmead) is Labour's spokesman on community cohesion and care and safer communities. He will also chair the care and safer communities scrutiny commission.
Councillor John Bees (Kingsweston) will shadow resources and transformation. Councillor Mark Bradshaw (Bedminster) will speak on transport and planning.
Councillor Terry Cook (Avonmouth) will be the group's front-bench spokesman on regeneration and sustainability. He will also chair the sustainable development and transport scrutiny commission.
Councillor Judith Price (Kingsweston) will speak on homes and street scene and will chair the quality of life scrutiny commission.
On health, leisure and culture Councillor Rosalie Walker (Horfield) will lead for Labour. Councillor Walker will also chair the health scrutiny commission.
On children and young people, Labour's lead will be Councillor Derek Pickup (Henbury), who will chair the children's services scrutiny commission.
